We welcome your ideas...
After four months, we are off to a great start. We are pleased with the amazing support our store has received. Since May, we’ve had over 50 knitters take our classes with many new socks, scarves, Marble Cardis, felted clogs, Baby Surprise Sweaters, and Entrelac purses leaving our doors. We want to become and stay your local yarn store (LYS)--we can’t do it without you. Many of you have expressed great ideas for our shop. Send your ideas to the Knit’n From the Heart staff at contact@heartknits.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

New in the Shop
- The Mirasol Project. We are carrying this new Peruvian yarn collection from the Mallkini Ranch, established to breed alpaca herds. A percentage of every sale of Mirasol yarn is invested in the establishment and running of a boarding house for local children. Designer, Jane Ellison has taken an interest in Peru as a developing country and designed a collection of patterns for the yarns. We believe you will find these yarns and the Ellison book irresistible.
- Lots of new patterns from Black Purl, Once in a Bloomoon, Fiber Trends, Oat Couture, Vermont Designs, Marie Mayhew, Ann Nordling.
- News books: Fitted Knits, Knit Kimonos, The Best of Interweave Press, Purls Forever, New Pathways for Sock Knitters and more.
- New baby yarns to add to our collection of suppliers: Plymouth Oh My!, Heaven, and DreamBaby DK. We are working hard to keep up with your demand for the baby Encore colors.
- Malabrigo Aquarella, Kettle-Dyed Worsted, and Gruesa
- Cascade 128 and Plymouth Bulky and Chunky weight yarns
- Needle felting accessories and roving
- New afghan kits
- Many new notions and accessories
We’ve had to move things around a bit to make room. If you can’t find your favorites, ask the staff to help you. |

Customer Success Stories
We’ve had fun this Summer with first-time knitters, those who have been brushing up on their skills, as well as experienced knitters. No one lit up the shop more than Jessica O’Mahony, a seventh grader, from Reno, Nevada who spent the Summer with her grandmother, Vicky Smith. It was a great bonding experience for Vicky and Jessica -- (not to mention with our staff). Jessica selected this Pursenalities Spring Fling Bag for her very first project before moving onto a Plymouth Entrelac Argyle bag for her second. We learned the meaning of “no fear” knitting from Jessy and then sadly bid her good-bye until next Summer.
This is only one success story – Judy took a group through a Kertzer Marble Cardi class this Summer. Calling her “the drill sergeant”, Judy has supported the group through knitting this sweater – picking up those 362 stitches. Several have been modeled in the shop, and we are well on our way to 100% completion.
Stay tuned to learning more about Carole’s nine knitters taking her Amy Singer Bacardi cardigan class that started August 21. |

The August 18 Jonelle Raffino Event
Electrifying is the only word we can use for the two hours Jonelle and Joe Raffino of SouthwestTrading Company spent in our shop on August 18. Customers patiently waited for Jonelle’s arrival at 5:00. Jonelle walked in wearing her Mitered Squares Sweater, featured on the SWTC INC website, and it didn’t stop until 7:00. As they carried in their “Go Green” tour, the Raffinos were swarmed. We estimate sixty customers were in the shop at one time, enjoying Acapulco’s great food, viewing SWTC INC’s designs and learning about renewable fibers -- soy, corn, bamboo, featured in – Karaoke, TOFUtsies, Pure, Bamboo, Vicky Howell’s Love and Vegas yarns. The hit of the evening was Yin and Yang, exquisite yarns of soy, wool and silk. Our staff proudly showed the Raffinos our featured samples in SWTC yarns – Becky’s B 4 Bag and Judy’s Vogue Knitting baby sweater.
The Raffinos generously stayed an extra hour for Knit’n From the Heart staff development, educating the staff about the SWTC yarns. We learned about SWTC fibers, services and how we can work with shop customers. Here’s how we can serve you better:

-

Our staff is excited to learn more about these fibers and working with you.

Class Schedule
On August 1, we posted our class schedule on the Knit’n From the Heart website (www.heartknits.com, Class Schedule). We’ve put samples in the shop for you to see a finished project. Some of the classes have already filled, and we are looking to add more classes this Fall. Visit the web site or stop in the shop to learn more about the class schedule.
Based upon your requests, new trends, a variety of skill levels, and staff ideas and talents, we’ve selected new classes to add to our standards such as the Knitting Primer. Your suggestions help us know what to offer to meet your needs. Check out these opportunities:
-
Crochet 101. Many of you have asked for crochet classes, particularly in beginning crocheting. We carry crochet patterns, magazines and supplies in the shop. Joanne, an instructor who has taught crocheting for over twenty years, will be starting a class in October for beginners.
-
Knitting for Teens. Teens and girls have asked us for classes specifically for them. We’ve lined up Becky, a teen with eight years fiber experience, to teach in the shop. The classes will make beginning projects with Becky. Becky knits samples for our shop – check out her Fiber Trends Squirrel, the Karaoke B 4 Bag and fingerless gloves. We’ve given her a break as she knits her own Interweave sweater in pink Cascade yarn. Becky’s classes are filling up fast – sign up today.
-
The Bijoux Blouse. This Oat Couture project is a perfect first sweater project. Laurie will take time to teach you the basics of knitting a sweater.
-
Marie Mayhew Designs. Elizabeth invited Marie Mayhew to visit our shop. She carried in her basket filled with felted pumpkins, snowmen and eggs to our delight. After the oooohs and ahhhhs, we ordered a bunch, and Elizabeth will be offering Harvest Pumpkin and Woolly Snowmen classes this Fall.
-
Sweater for Your Head Hat. No, it is not a baby sweater. Yes, it is a hat. Carole is teaching cables techniques this Fall. This hat pattern from Hats—A Knitter’s Dozen is perfect for a first time cable project.
-
Itty Bitty Hats. This is a perfect class for advanced beginners and graduates of Heidi’s 101 and 102 classes.
-
Christmas Stockings. We have two Christmas stocking classes filling. Gayle will be teaching one of Arnhild Studios designs, and Elizabeth will teach Marie Mayhew’s felted Christmas Stocking.
We are working on new ideas. Keep yours coming!
